Evil Dead 1 and 2

Features: 2 Pack, Book, Limited Edition, Gift Set, Box Set, DVD, Widescreen

Enjoy these two Evil Dead classics in one package with EVIL DEAD - BOOK OF THE DEAD and EVIL DEAD 2 - BOOK OF THE DEAD 2.

EVIL DEAD - BOOK OF THE DEAD: In the summer of 1979, a group of Detroit friends with $375,000 raised from local investors headed for a cabin outside of Morristown, Tennessee to make a film about five college students possessed by an ancient "Book of the Dead". The filmmakers' goal was to create "The Ultimate Experience In Grueling Terror," a movie so relentless that it would stand forever as a landmark in modern horror history. When it was released in 1982, it was immediately recognized worldwide as one of the most ferociously original horror films ever made. Twenty years later, this is The Evil Dead like you've never seen or heard it before. The Evil Dead is now more grueling than ever, featuring newly restored state-of-the-art digitally remastered picture and sound, and loaded with incredible new extras, all personally supervised by director Sam Raimi. This edition comes packaged in a replica of the original Book Of The Dead designed by Tom Sullivan. It features a sculpted 'fleshy' cover and pages of artwork produced exclusively for this edition.

EVIL DEAD 2 - BOOK OF THE DEAD 2: Ash (Bruce Campbell), the sole survivor of The Evil Dead, continues his struggle with the forces of the dead. With his girlfriend possessed by demons and his body parts runnning amok, Ash is forced to single-handedly battle the legions of the damned as the most lethal -- and groovy -- hero in horror movie history! Welcome to Evil Dead II, director Sam Raimi's infamous sequel to The Evil Dead and outrageous prequel to Army of Darkness!

"[Dead] Wildly stylish...one of the grossest horror films ever... provides a deliriously imaginative roller coaster ride for those with strong stomachs."  Leonard Maltin's Movie & Video Guide
"[Dead 2] Gory, tongue-in-cheek sequel..."  VideoHound's Golden Movie Retriever

Editor's Note

THE EVIL DEAD, director Sam Raimi's first film, has achieved legendary status since its 1982 release--and for good reason. Though perhaps not as widely seen as its two sequels, EVIL DEAD 2 and ARMY OF DARKNESS, THE EVIL DEAD is arguably the best of the three. It is the story of five college-age friends who travel to a cabin in rural Tennessee where they stumble upon the Book of the Dead, an ancient tome bound in human flesh and written in blood. After unwittingly awakening the unspeakable terrors described in the book, the friends, one by one, are transformed into the evil dead, except for Ash (Bruce Campbell). Left with no other way to survive than to dismember the living corpses of his sister, his girlfriend, and two friends, Ash resorts to desperate measures to get out alive. Shot on a shoestring budget, the film boasts some impressive camera work and extremely over-the-top gore effects as well as a sense of humor much more subtle than the tongue-in-cheek aesthetic of the two sequels. In THE EVIL DEAD 2, a slightly higher-budget sequel-remake of the original EVIL DEAD, a group of people (again headed by Ash) are trapped in a cabin while ancient evil lurks outside and threatens a fate worse than death. While fans often disagree on which of the two films ranks higher, it is safe to say that both have played large roles in shaping the horror genre.
